Locked Up In A Tower
No prince is coming to my rescue, and no hair long enough to use as an escape
Dear Friend,
I am locked up in a tower. Spinning the wheel of my life as if in a deep sleep.
The key is long lost and buried under layers of doubt and self-imposed lies. No prince is coming to my rescue, and no hair long enough to use as an escape. It is a cold and lifeless tower created by my own fears and insecurities.
Forced to think and act small under a man-made roof, I spend my days and nights pacing back and forth on the cold stone floors. My only companion, a mirror on the wall, reflecting back the hopeless shell of a person I have become. I am by far the fairest of them all, instead a lonely soul slowly wasting away.
A few strays of sunshine find their way through to me every afternoon as if calling me, teasing me with memories far beyond these tower walls. I grieve for those days. The long-lost dreams and the freedom I once had, roaming around under blossom trees and golden fields.
Time has proven that I will never turn into a Rapunzel with hair long enough to guide me down. I can either stay here trapped forever or take a leap of faith and jump.
With trembling hands, I look down into the unknown. A veil of fog limiting my vision beyond. The tower's height frightens me, but I refuse this to be the end of my story. The wind whispering promises of new beginnings, I close my eyes to keep fear from holding me back. A silent prayer on my lips– I let go.
With a poof, the dark tower disappears into thin air as if it has never existed.
The sun now beaming through the clouds, embraces me in a warm hug. Just like in a fairy tale, the curse has been lifted.
I realize now that the key was never a prince or long hair but confronting my fears and taking a leap of faith by letting go. I am no longer chained to a dark tower. No longer bound by my fears. The battle is won, and my happily ever after is finally here.
Thank you for this fascinating comparison. I love the ending. This is so true.
That is so true! Very well written.
